There was an era of socialism in our republic since 1948 till 1989. There was no freedom of opinions, word, values, religion etc. Many people tried to escape secretly across the borders. And especially areas with woods helped these people running to freedom. The problem was, amongst others, that the landscape was difficult and dangerous to get through,especially at night.

Here, in the Šumava mountains was a legendary man who helped many people on their way to freedom as he knew the way through the local landscape.
